The DSSAT 2018 & MWCropDSS International Training Program was successfully held at the Green Lake Resort Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand from August 27 through September 1, 2018. A total of 24 participants from China (4), Bhutan (1), India (1), Indonesia (1), Japan (1), Thailand (15), USA (1), and 2 observers attended the workshop. The workshop was well received, with several requests for collaboration from public and private organizations as well as a request to organize a training workshop in 2019. The six-day training activities included lectures and computer exercises to learn various aspects of the three crop production levels, including potential production, water-limited production, and nutrient-limited production systems. Participants learned and used the DSSATv4.7 software program to handle the minimum data set (weather, soil, genetic coefficients, and crop management) in simulating the three crop production levels at the plot and field level. In addition, the MWCropDSS package was installed and introduced to link the DSSAT models to simulate crop yield and production at the provincial level or other spatial boundary.
