International DSSAT Workshop at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan

From December 16 – 18, 2024 the Department of Agronomy, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Pakistan organized a three-day workshop entitled “International workshop on DSSAT: Assessing Climate Change Impact, Adaptation and Mitigation using Crop Simulation Models.” Speakers and presenters included Prof. Dr. Ir. Gerrit Hoogenboom, University of Florida; Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan; Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Dr. Muhammad Abid, COMSAT, Mr. Muhammad Arif Goheer, GCISC, Dr. Muhammad Aslam Gill, Ministry of Food Security & Research, Prof. Dr. Syed Aftab Wajid, University of Agriculture Faisalabad; Dr. Ghulam Abbas, Agriculture Extension Department, and Dr Adnan Zahid, Punjab University Lahore.

Researchers and scientists from different provinces of country participated physically while international participants joined workshop via zoom. Local participants were from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, University of Haripur, The Agriculture University Peshawar, Punjab University Lahore, Fatima Jinnah Women University, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Islamic International University Islamabad, Rawalpindi Women University, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture, Multan, KIBGE, University of Karachi, Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII), National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC) Islamabad, Directorate of Agronomy and Natural Resources (DARN) Agricultural Research Institute of Mozambique(IIAM), Global Change Impact Study Centre (GCISC) Islamabad, and Extension Wing of Agriculture Department, Government of Punjab. Representative from different industries, that includes Sapphire, Engro and FFC participated.

Day 1 (16-12-2024) DSSAT Inaugural session

The training workshop aimed to equip the participants with advanced skills in agricultural decision-making using DSSAT, data analysis, and scenario development. The dedication of the organizers and trainers significantly enhanced the learning experience highlighting PMAS-AAUR commitment for advancing agricultural education and research for sustainable development for ensuring food security through assessment of Climate Change Impact and designing of Adaptation & Mitigation strategies using Crop Simulation Models.

The Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi Pakistan provided local hospitality including accommodation in the University Guest House along with local transport facilities for the participants.
