The DSSAT community has reached an important milestone: more than 40,000 downloads worldwide.
Since download tracking began with DSSAT Version 4.7, DSSAT has recorded 40,688 downloads as of October 9, 2026, across 184 countries. This milestone demonstrates the broad international reach of the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer and the continued interest in crop simulation and agricultural systems modeling.

DSSAT is a crop modeling and decision-support system that integrates crop, soil, weather, and management information to simulate crop growth, development, yield and associated soil processes. The DSSAT installation package currently includes simulation models for more than 45 crops, together with tools for data management, model evaluation, seasonal and spatial analyses, climate-change assessment, crop rotations, irrigation and nutrient management and other applications.
DSSAT has been applied worldwide in research, education, extension, and decision support, including applications in crop management, climate variability and climate change, precision agriculture, crop water use, greenhouse gas emissions, breeding and gene-based modeling, climate-smart agriculture, soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics and long-term agricultural sustainability.
The most recent release, DSSAT Version 4.8.6.0 (Request DSSAT), was released on July 1, 2026. This release introduced new CROPGRO models for Flax and Hemp, support for Rye, new and updated tools, additional environmental and plant nitrogen outputs, improvements to water, nitrogen, carbon, and mass-balance calculations, and numerous revisions to crop models, input handling, output reporting, and experimental datasets.
The worldwide distribution of downloads highlights the truly global reach of the DSSAT community, with users across nearly every region of the world. India, China, Pakistan, United States of America, Brazil, and Ethiopia are among the countries with the highest number of downloads. Thank You to the DSSAT Community
Reaching more than 40,000 downloads would not have been possible without the researchers, educators, students, extension professionals, growers, developers, collaborators, and institutions that have used, evaluated, taught, improved and contributed to DSSAT over the years.
We sincerely thank the entire DSSAT community for your continued support, collaboration, feedback, and contributions.
Every application, research project, training program, dataset, model improvement, bug report, publication, and scientific collaboration helps strengthen DSSAT and expand its contribution to agricultural science and decision support worldwide.
We look forward to continuing to develop DSSAT together with our international community and to supporting the next generation of agricultural systems.
Thank you for being part of the DSSAT community and for helping reach 40,000+ downloads worldwide!
